Anne of Green Gables
December 2, 2003 - 9:49 PM

As some of you know, I have become an avid searcher of Ebay, and when I saw this on Compass (Our Local 6:00 News) last week I decided to keep an eye out on it. Being an from Prince Edward Island I have always been an Anne of Green Gables Fan. Somebody from New Hampshire USA, placed on Ebay a 1st Edition Hard Cover of the original 1908 Anne of Green Gables Novel. Compass stated that it was being sold for $6,100 with the end date being May 1st. After the end date happened, I immediatly checked what the final bid placed on it was.....$14,001. And the Reserve Bid was NOT met. Meaning, the price the owner had originally wanted the book to go for was not high enough.

MP3 File Sharing Legal?
October 28, 2003 - 12:25 PM

Pretty Much everyone knows about issues that have been brought among the world when it comes to MP3's. The biggest ever being the whole Napster Cases. I too, have been guilty of such infringes....or am I. Most people have noticed that the biggest incriminations are all in the United States, but has anything come up in Canada yet? Last night, while teaching my Computer Basics course, I happened to read the Holland College newspaper; "The Surveyor" and happen to come across this article. As weird as it sounds is this as true as it seems, or has it been sugar coated?

My Monitor? Bad or Good?
October 15, 2003 - 9:35 AM

Its been about 3 months since I bought my new monitor, and its performance has been far to none, but now I am faced with a problem with it. A couple of weeks ago I have discovered a dead pixel on it. And 2 days later, I found another one. As much as this does tick me off, its kind of interesting to see. On a normal CRT monitor when you have a dead pixel it goes black not allowing the light to go through. When I initialy saw the first dead pixel on my LCD, it was a bright green, so I thought the Liquid inside was green, until I saw the second Pixel, it is Red. after I called future shop they said it is covered under my warranty, but it would have to get sent away to the Ciccero company. And knowing this I may have to go 2 months without my monitor, is it worth it? I have to make a decision fast cause my 90 day warrenty is nearly up.

Classic Gaming Still On Me
October 14, 2003 - 12:34 PM

OK, like I mentioned in my last post, I am a person that likes old games. The other day I decided to break out my old ATARI 2600 and play what I could. I have been collecting Atari game for the past few years and sitting at almost 100 of them. My personal favorite is called "Frostbite" where you are a little eskimo having to jump on ice bergs collecting ice to build your igloo. In the mean time you must dodge Seagulls, King Crabs and Clams, while eating fish that swim by. Also, I have been playing a game called "Secret Quest" which I have read was ranked at a 94% for Gaming. In my opinion, one of the first ever RPG's for Video Games, and even still today I cannot beat this game. Out of the 8 Levels I have only been able to make it to level 5. The Difficulty is extreme.

Kingdom Of Kroz
September 10, 2003 - 9:13 AM

Most people know I am a game lover, especially classic games. When it comes to computer games, I have downloaded a number of classic things like a Commodore 64 emulator. After a quick search I found a game I never thought I would see anymore. Kingdom of Kroz was the first game I ever played on a PC that didnt have the word Commodore in its name. I used to play it on my Dads Tandy 1000. Its a DOS based text game where you must go through collecting Whips, Gems and Teleports throughout the level, and then finish off the room by entering the door.

I know its not up to todays standards of games with high graphics, but its more challenging then ever with faster computers, nearly impossible. To give it a try you can download it here.

15.05 Seconds and Counting
August 14, 2003 - 1:13 PM

Speed Stacks, a game of ambidextrousness and quickness. Its been about 4 months since a long time friend and I have bought our cups, which for me over time, the novelty just seemed to go away.

The Object of the game is to build a required amount of pyramids with the 12 cups.

The formations must be created and taken down in the fastest time you can do it. It starts with 3 stacks of cups, with 2 piles of 3 and a pile of 6. You build a 3-6-3 formation, collapse the pyramids, make a 6-6 formation, collapse these, and end off with a 1-10-1 formation.

Yesterday I decided to take in my Speed Stacks for the Computer Camp kids that I have been teaching all summer, and it became an instant hit. They have played with these cups for hours and hours on end. With the Timer I have on my watch, we have been timing and keeping the best scored written down on the white board in the classroom. Today I have beaten my person best which was 16.90 seconds to 15:05. I just may break 10 seconds yet. With the kids in the class, in 2 days the fastest record is 23.22 seconds.

For all you wondering, the world record is 7.43 seconds.

Yu-Gi-Oh's Duel Monsters
August 3, 2003 - 4:12 PM

Yu-Gi-Oh: An Animé cartoon, which the main showing in Canada is on YTV and on the stations of WB and Cartoon Network in the States, is a cartoon, which basis its entire episodes on a card game called "Dueling Monsters." I have grown to dislike this cartoon very much so. Having a sister that is into "anime", she just loves this cartoon, and while she is sitting there enjoying the cartoon itself, I was taking more of an interest of the actual game of cards.

The game reminded me of a game that came out a number of years ago called "MAGIC" where each player had a number of cards and attacked their opponents cards with different strategies. As I was walking through the Summerside Superstore, I saw by the photo section "Yu-Gi-Oh" Trading cards which I shook my head at and thought to be fairly ridiculous, until I noticed that these cards were the actual game played on the show. So 2 minutes and $14.99 later, I owned my own starter deck of these cards, and my sister also bought a deck, and now I am hooked on the game.

New Monitor For Me!!!
July 19, 2003 - 8:46 AM

As some of you know already I have been having Monitor problems, and on July 3rd, my Daytek 15" CRT finally went on me and I was in the persuit for a new monitor. After keeping an eye on things on Ebay, and going to different retail outlets like staples and futureshop, a new monitor has finally come home with me. A Cicero 17" LCD Flatscreen from futureshop. Ticket price was $599 and after talking to a few salesmen, I was able to get them to take off $100 for a total of $499. Just in the 2 days I have had this, I already feel a difference on my eyes. The final Selling point with this monitor, was the fact that there are connection ports on the bottom, allowing a person to connect S-Video or RCA plugs right in like a TV Screen. I decided to go do some research about it online, and I can say there REALLY isnt too much about it so of course I wonder if there is a reason for that, the only website I found that listed anything about it was Here
Yup, I can already tell this is one of the best investment I have ever made.

WWE Wrestling In Charlottetown
July 9, 2003 - 12:32 PM

I have been a wrestling fan for years, and the second I heard wrestling was coming to Charlottetown, I let my good friends Shirley Ann and Chris know, and it was an instant reaction that we must get tickets. The morning the Box Office opened, Chris made the phone call (Redial was never used so much before) and after 25 minutes, we had 3rd row arena floor seats.

One of the highlights of my night, Rob Van Dam going around the ring for high 5's and I made my way to the gates to get one. Low Light of the night, is newrecruits highlight, which in defence did NOT happen as said. I was cheering Rico on and what I thought was a typical wrestler showboat.

All in All an absolute wonderful night. I just hope I dont have to wait another 8 years to see them again.
